In building a content strategy, inspiration comes from many places: From data, from your network, from inspirational discussions with friends, and even from a google search.
In this case, it was from the latter, I googled the trends for 2025 and was met with a distinct correlation of data
In the travel industry the trend relates to the discovery of new anchors, purpose and meaning. BBC reports the top 7 trends to be 1. Noctourism: That is tourism at night. Think Northern Lights 2. Calmcations: That is travel that is dedicated to created calmness and tranquility. Think tech free, off the grid experiences. 3. Travel meets AI: Essentially this is all about how AI is used to create and develop itineraries and plans. It is relatively early days here so stay tuned on this one. 4. The return of the holiday romance. Eat, Pray. Love. 5. Off the beaten track goes main stream. Apparently Uzbekistan tops the list here. 6. Coolcations: Travelling from "where's hot, the where's not" following rising global temperatures and 7. Nostalgia Travel: Reliving childhood and happy experiences.
In the fashion industry the trends relate to 1. Boho Chic in Suede: Think relaxed and sophisticated suede. 2. Yellow - bold and rich 3. Elevated and cute sportswear - kind of like a 'Clueless" revival. 4. The feminine polo shirt 5. The thong sandal 6. The strapless dress 7. Asymmetrical shapes and 8. Animal Prints and 9. Mermaid blues and aquas.
Coincidentally, Dulux predicts the paint colour of the year to be "True Joy" : an uplifting shade of yellow to brighten everyone's day!
In dining, we are moving to plant based and sustainable food sources, coupled with more AI immersive and theatrical experiences. Oh and weird combinations that are unique and exclusive to a restaurant are increasingly in demand.
In Social Media, Hootsuite predicts the top three trends to be 1. Content exoerimentation 2. Social Listening and 3. The use of AI technology.
And In the Home, design trends favour unique statement ceilings, decluttering and personalisation of spaces.
What does all this mean?
There are three silver threads bringing all these trends together:
Discovery: With renewed energy and hope, people are putting the pandemic behind them and beginning to look more to the future. It is a moment in time of discovering who we all are as individuals and are a society.
Individualism: Perhaps the pandemic forced us all to look inwards a little more and in doing so, more pride in ones own uniqueness has formed. Across all the trends unique personalisation and individual pursuits are on trend and
Joy : As Barbara Streisand once sang "Happy Days are here again......."
